Frequently Asked Questions

Cabinets

Doors

  • How long will it take to get my cabinets?

    • Typical cabinet turn-around time is 3-6 weeks for unfinished cabinets from the time we have all appliance dimensions, field dimensions, contract and a deposit. Typical turn-around time for finished cabinet jobs is 8 weeks.

  • How much does a typical running foot of cabinets cost?

    • Because there are so many different options (such as materials, door style, drawer style, accessories, configuration, etc.) available to our customers, there is no "typical" type of cabinet. Each cabinet job is individually customized to the owner's desires usally from $150 to $350 per linear foot of base or upper. Therefore, we can't fairly quote a "typical" running foot of cabinetry. However, we will gladly give you a free quote on your cabinet project. The most important factors to consider when comparing prices is to make sure the quotes are for the same quality of materials, construction and options.

  • Does Evans Cabinets remove or tear-out existing cabinets?

    • No. Evans Cabinets specializes in constructing and installing fine custom cabinetry.

  • Does Evans Cabinets install cabinets?

    • Evans Cabinets install crews are experienced and efficient. One of the benefits of shop built cabinets over "site built" cabinets is brief time cabinet crews spend at the jobsite. They arrive in a box van that is truly a mobile woodshop. This allows Evans to quickly and accurately set, level, and trim the cabinets in a minimum amount of time. Cabinet installation usually happens when other "finish" trades need to be completing flooring, wallcovering and trim. Contractors get really excited when our install crews get "in and out" of the jobsite in a day or two. This allows other trades to complete their tasks more quickly.

  • Does Evans Cabinets sell interior and exterior passage doors?

    • No. We do provide large panel doors for areas like linen closets, pantries, or access panels where doors matching cabinets are needed.

  • What do I need to furnish Evans Cabinets to get an estimate for my cabinets?

    • Actually, very little is required. A free estimate can be prepared from a dimensioned simple sketch, floor plan, or pictures from a magazine. You'll also need to consider wood type, door style, and drawer style. We can also include options for cabinet installation and finishing. For a sample of our quote package, view this link.

  • Does Evans Cabinets furnish glass for shelves and doors?

    • No. It's best to have glass experts supply and install glass products.

  • What's the difference between "frame", "frameless" and "inset" styles of cabinets?

    • Both styles are quite popular, however there are several advantages that make frameless (or "Euro") more desirable. For a more detailed explanation, view this diagram.

  • Which species of woods does Evans Cabinets use to manufacture cabinets?

  • Which wood is the least expensive?

    • MDF is the least expensive of the wood products that we use to manufacture cabinets for painting. Red Oak, Ash, Birch, Poplar, and Clear Pine are similar in price when using kiln dried woods for cabinetry or furniture construction. White Maple, Cherry, Walnut, and Mahogany are more expensive. The main consideration to keep in mind when selecting woods is the quality of the finish that will be applied. Good finishing practices can make birch (a normal wood) rival fine cherry in appearance. A poor quality finish, on the other hand, can make beautiful wood and woodworking look dull and inexpensive.

  • Does Evans Cabinets measure for cabinets?

    • Yes. Every job is field measured by an experienced cabinetmaker. Evans cabinets are custom built in a 22,000 square foot facility equipped with large industrial machines operated by a talented workforce. It is essential that accurate measurements including locations of all windows, openings, plumbing and electrical services are determined. Cabinets are sized to fit the space available with the features and accessories the homeowner desires.

  • Does Evans Cabinets sell and install countertops?

    • We make custom solid wood butcher block countertops. We also can provide laminate countertops for commercial projects. We normally do not provide laminate tops for residential projects. We do not sell granite or solid surface countertops. We can provide you with references for these items in some areas. For further information on various countertop materials, go to Kitchen.com's "Countertops: Materials Comparison".

  • Can I tour the Evans Cabinets shop?

    • Yes. You may tour Evans Cabinets shop as current jobs are being manufatured.

  • Does Evans Cabinets design cabinetry?

    • Yes. Cabinetry design is integral to manufacturing at Evans Cabinets.

  • Does Evans Cabinets make cabinetry other than kitchens?

    • Yes. Evans Cabinets manufactures custom vanities, entertainment centers, home offices, linens, wet bars, and utility rooms.

  • What is the process from my cabinet drawings to completion?

    • We can give you a quote for free with options for installation and finishing. We can modify the price with any changes that you may have. Once you're satisfied with the quote, we can start drawing the cabinetry and gather miscellaneous details such as door edges and finish. You'll need to supply appliance model numbers for the final drawings using the field measurements. We will make a finish sample and submit drawings for your approval. Upon signing the contract and making a deposit, we will submit drawings and finish sample for your approval. At this point, we will use our computer aided drawings to produce information for our millwork manufaturers. After cutting, milling, and assembling, the cabinetry is moved to our finishing shop. Once the finishing is completed, we install the cabinetry. Finally, we make any touch-ups and adjustments.

  • What is MDF?
